An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy. Before having an abortion, a woman needs to be able to answer three questions:

1.  Am I really pregnant?

Is it possible to have a false pregnancy test? Yes. Pregnancy test read based on a hormone called human chorionic gonadoptropin (HCG). It is possible for your body to produce this hormone without being pregnant. However, this is not very common. More importantly, women need to know that 1 in 3 pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. The only way to determine if a pregnancy will carry to term is through an ultrasound which Options Now provide at no cost to you, if eligible.

2. How far along am I?

To determine the type of abortion procedure one will need, one should know the estimated gestational age (EGA). At Options Now, we can provide a limited ultrasound to measure the EGA. Some believe that they can measure their EGA with a pregnancy wheel. However, there are many factors that could give the pregnancy wheel an inaccurate reading.

3. Could I have an STI?

Find out if you have an STI before going to the abortion clinic. If you have an STI such as Chlamydia or Gonorrhea, you are at risk of contracting Pelvic Inflammatory Disease(PID). PID may increase your risk of future ectopic (tubal) pregnancies and may decrease your ability to get pregnant in the future.
